THE SAFETY OF THE KOUGA DAM WALL* An assessment was conducted in 2015 in terms of the safety of the Kouga dam wall. It was found that the wall's behaviour was within the required limits.* It is natural for the concrete of a dam wall to show movement.* Movement in Kouga dam's wall is measured with an extended network of sensors. * It is measured every day. Certain indicators are measured physically monthly.* The results are reported to DWS where a specialist considers the data.* Kouga dam is designed to have a maximum spillway capacity of 6 100 000 litre per second.* The flood of last Thursday spilled at 3 700 000 litre per second.* As mentioned, the most in the existence of the dam.* This is well within the safety limit.* Considering these facts, there are no grounds for the rumours circulating on social media, hinting that there is a risk that Kouga dam will fail.So many of us spend our time on cellphones. It is important to make sure about facts, before panic is created.Kouga dam 102.23%81 218 litre per secondGrootrivier 14 000 litre per secondTHERE IS STILL NO ACCESS TO THE DAM. No sluices are open and no sluices will be opened. This can be confirmed by Gamtoos Water User Association, who is the operators of Kouga dam.Still be carefull at low level bridges. ...
