Kouga dam, today photographed by Jonathan Snyders.Kouga dam 101.56%, 46 952 litre per second.Loerie dam 102.09%, 7 082 litre per second.All water restriction in the Kouga and Kromme systems have been lifted by the Department of Water Affairs.Hierdie is 'n weergawe aan my gestuur van Estelle Meyer wie getroud is met Naas Meyer oor die 1971 vloed.Kindly bear with me, English speaking folk.My man, Naas Meyer, het gevra ek moet hierdie vir jou stuur na aanleiding van jou Facebook plasing waarin jy verwys na die ingenieur se opinie.Naas se Oupa en Ouma het op ’n plaas in Stuurmanskraal gewoon. Oupa was bekend as Vaal Naas Ferreira. Sy ouma was swanger met Naas se ma. In daardie stadium het almal van ’n voedvrou gebruik gemaak en sy het reeds by hulle ingetrek en in die kombuis geslaap. Gedurende die nag maak sy Oupa wakker en sê daar is water wat onder die deur inkom. Oupa vat Ouma, vroedvrou en die ander kindertjies na die hoogste punt op die plaas en hulle almal is in die huis van een van hul werkers. Kort daarna kraam Ouma en Naas se Ma word gebore. Die datum is 5 Mei 1916 toe die verwoestende Baviaanskloof-vloed plaasgevind. Dit is voorafgegaan deur 'n groot droogte, waarna dae en nagte van aanhoudende reën al die spruite en klowe laat oorloop het. Sewe mense het verdrink, insluitend vier lede van die Campbell-gesin. En nou dag en datum 110 jaar op 5 Mei 2026 is daar weer ’n vloed.Frans Klopper is dus 100% met 1 in ‘n 100 jaar vloed.Dankie hiervoor Estelle.Ons het die opinie van verskeie van ons meer bejaarde inwoners gekry oor die vloed en hulle is van die opinie dat dit nog die meeste water is wat hulle al ooit in die Gamtoos vallei gesien het. ...
